Our Day Community Opportunities Program invited all Living Resources staff to send each other tokens of comfort and joy this season in the form of Candy grams. Staff from all departments were invited to send hand-written greetings to their co-workers. Then, our ever-innovative DCOP Super Heroes guided their participants in the process of creating cheerful holiday crafts with candy attached. These gifts were cheerfully delivered by eager elves in the week leading up to Christmas. Once such elf, Maria (pictured) was thrilled to be able to make the rounds and looks forward to the next opportunity to spread a little happiness. [...]

Some of Santa’s elves visited our residences recently bringing gifts of wreaths and goodies. We visited with the individuals and shared our gratitude to the house staff for all the hard work and loving care they give to our individuals every day of the year.  

Our Residential Department’s monthly meeting had a particularly festive feel this month! After the Managers, Assistant Managers, and Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals (QIDPs) were treated to a Christmas-themed party. They enjoyed wonderful food, played some reindeer games, and even received presents from Santa. We were happy to shower our residential team with some extra year-end love to show them how much we appreciate them and all the hard work they do every day.

Sometimes a kind gesture has unintended consequences. Both Dubois and Jennifer have lived in apartments of their own assisted by staff in our Supportive Living Program for decades. They each have their own routines and particular way of doing things and have reveled in their independence. At the beginning of the pandemic, a situation made it necessary for Jennifer to leave her apartment building. But finding a new apartment was proving difficult. Dubois hated to see his good friend in such a difficult position, so he made the generous offer to let Jennifer move in with him until she could locate [...]

The lovely ladies who reside at one of our homes in Schenectady had a fabulous ladies' night out, enjoying the Schenectady Christmas Parade on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The women wore matching Santa hats as they watched the floats, dancers, and bands pass by.  Although it was a cold night, they were thrilled to attend to parade with the rest of their community. The theme of this year’s parade was appropriately “Superheroes.” We join in this theme by taking a moment to praise our hard-working Superhero staff! Ray has been part of the Living Resources family for over seven years. He is one of the first residents to move into our Smart House, a barrier- free home which utilizes the latest technologies available to increase independence and quality of life for individuals with a variety of disabilities. Ray is a very sweet and caring individual who gets along well with everyone he meets. He enjoys shooting hoops and playing with his toy cars. “When women support women, amazing things can happen.” ~ Viola Davis The Supportive Living Program’s Women's group began a few years ago to help women gather on a weekly basis for socialization and support. The plan was for participants to talk about day-to-day events from a woman’s perspective and encourage each other to live their best lives. Unfortunately, like many other things, the in-person Women's Group was put on hold during the Covid 19 shutdown.
