At Living Resources, we offer fun, interactive nutrition classes to any individual from any of the Living Resources programs. The focus of the class is to help individuals learn how to make healthy eating choices. Last week they made homemade granola. Alice shared some of what she learned in the classes. Al was excited to attend morning Yom Kippur services recently. A longtime member of both the Living Resources and Congregation Gates of Heaven families, Al explained that in the Jewish faith, Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement- a day set aside for repenting and forgiveness of sins. It made him feel great to be able to practice his religion, particularly on such an important holiday. He said. “I like going there because I have a lot of friends. Turning a Passion into a Profession

Isn’t it amazing when your passion becomes your profession? Luke has always had a love for animals. When he attended our College Experience program, he chose to focus on the different aspects of pet care for his internships. He started at Grrreendog Grooming and Spa where he learned about canine behavior and the importance of body language and confidence when directing the dogs. His second internship focused on the retail side of pet care while working at Pet Supplies Plus. There he learned the products, stocked the shelves, and assisted customers. The beautiful fall weather has allowed our individuals the get out on numerous road trips lately! Those who live in one of our Schenectady residences took a road trip to Goshen NY to experience the wonders of Legoland. As you can see all had an amazing time. We are grateful to the staff who did all the planning to make this such a successful day for all involved.

Alicia R. has been working with the Capital District YMCA’s After School program for over three years. She is proud of her role as activities assistant for the Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten room in both the morning and afterschool programs. In her role, Alicia is responsible for keeping the children engaged and focused using many social and educational activities, such as story time, outside play, crafts, and themed activities. Fall Fun on the Farm

The participants of our Saratoga Day Community Opportunity Programs (DCOP) have been taking advantage of this month’s beautiful autumn weather by visiting some of the many local farms and orchards. They have been picking apples, going on tractor rides, petting animals, watching piglet races, and, of course, enjoying yummy baked goods. They love celebrating life in public recreation areas by sliding on slides, swinging, and dancing. Chris H. explored a few careers when he began his employment journey. He started in athletics and worked in a hotel, but then it hit him, his real passion is cooking, and he wanted to become a chef. He expressed his desire to his job coach and they were off to find Chris a position that would allow him to learn the ropes and challenge him on to his next steps in becoming a chef. Keeping everyone healthy at VENT Fitness!

Molly F. began her VENT Fitness career as an intern in their Latham branch while attending Living Resources College Experience Program. As part of her position, Molly was responsible for helping to keep the equipment sanitized and cleaned. Since the pandemic, this position is extremely valuable in helping to maintain the health of everyone at the gym. Molly’s internship ended recently when she was hired as a VENT Fitness employee.
