Ready to celebrate in Mahopac! It was Walter's 49th birthday and his Living Resources family was ready for a party. His staff did it up in style!!! They had it catered and even went the extra mile to include a snow cone machine, bubble machine, and DJ Ray. Walter's fellow residential family members wore matching shirts that said “Walter's birthday team.” Staff members Desi, Wayne and Manager Tinamarie wore shirts declaring that they are “Walters Crew.” This was the first get together since the pandemic and it felt amazing! Recently, Living Resources College Experience Sophomore Seminar students participated in a Community Service project to make their neighborhood clean and beautiful! Armed with litter claw grabbers, plastic bags, gloves, and a bucket, they got to work on tackling  the refuse around them. The Sophomore Seminar students and their instructors Kathleen Murray and Emily Padula, filled two garbage bags with the litter that had built up over the course of the long and dreary winter. We are grateful to the Stewarts Foundation for their Holiday Match Grant supporting our art program! We were able to obtain Lenovo computer tablets so our participants who struggle with isolation can participate in art from their homes. We have also purchased a variety of art supplies to eliminate the risk of spreading germs incurred by sharing materials. Among the items we purchased are Crayola colored pencils, Sharpie markers, and Ticonderoga pencils. At his Living Resources residence in Schenectady where he has lived for 25 years, Carey Walker proudly modeled a bracelet he made by threading small plastic beads on nylon string. It was a work of art, featuring the entire alphabet. Carey, who was born in Jamaica, enjoys being in the great outdoors, going out for burgers and ice cream, and listening to music, particularly the reggae sound of Bob Marley. Of all his hobbies, he says that creating bracelets is his favorite. He has been making them since he was seven years old, has perfected his craft for well over 50 [...]

Jake works at the Law Firm of Solomon and Solomon P.C. a few days a week, assisting with data entry, scanning and copying. It’s a position that he enjoys and he wishes he could do more but his hours have decreased since the beginning of the pandemic. It’s not always easy to find the perfect employment to fit each job seeker, particularly one year into a global pandemic.
