Living The Mission: Michael’s Story

Here at Living Resources, our mission is to enable individuals with disabilities to live their lives with dignity, independence, and happiness. So, when we see an individual we support doing just that, we love to share their story. Meet Michael, a Long Island native who came to the Albany area for the first time in 2018 as a part of Living Resources’ College Experience Program. Hope Survives! Brain Injury Awareness Day 2025

Hope, and hard work were mainstage at the Brain Injury Association of New York State’s (BIANYS) Advocacy Day, sponsored by Assemblymember John T. McDonald III on March 12, 2025. The daylong event at the Legislative Office Building raised awareness of brain injuries and served as a platform to advocate for key policy initiatives. We’re in the final stretch of advocacy season, and our Living Resources Day Community Opportunities Program (DCOP) participants came out in full-force at the Legislative Office Building in the New York State Capitol. Advocating for Wheelchair Users Across New York State

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, New York State Senator Patricia Fahy, along with Senator Jake Ashby and Assemblywoman Gabriella Romero, held a press conference in which she introduced new legislation regarding the right to wheelchair repair. Disability Rights New York, New York Association on Independent Living, Living Resources, Spina Bifida Association, CP State, and more were all in attendance at the Senator’s press conference to show their support. On Sunday, February 9, 2025, a spirited group of Living Resources’ College Experience alumni gathered at the home of Brendan Salmon to enjoy the excitement of the Super Bowl! The evening was filled with football euphoria, entertaining commercials, and plenty of good company. Are you caught in the January doldrums? You might want to consider taking a stitch from our Brain Injury participants and trying a yarn craft. Knitting, crocheting, looming, and latch hooking are knot your average hobbies. They are truly off the hook! Wild for Birds

Six months ago, a local wildlife rescue organization, Whispering Willow Wild Care, brought their inspiring exhibit of birds of prey to Living Resources Acquired Brain Injury program, offering both educational enrichment and a meaningful connection to nature. All the program participants were captivated by the impressive array of raptors, including majestic ravens, magnificent owls, powerful hawks, and chatty crows.
