Saratoga Day Community Opportunities Program (DCOP) participants spent the month of July finding some of the best summer destinations in the region! They took an excursion to Lake Luzerne to try river tubing with @TubbyTubes for the first time. Everyone enjoyed the delightfully relaxing experience of floating on the water and hanging with their peers! They continued their water adventures with the @LakeGeorgeSteamboatCompany on the Minne-Ha-Ha Paddlewheel Steamboat.  They spent the hour long cruise being serenaded by the calliope, enjoying beautiful views of the Adirondack Mountains and watching some parasailers explore the lake from above. Some of our Schenectady Day Community Opportunity Program (DCOP) participants have been gaining Independence, self-esteem, and creativity in the most delicious way possible! Cooking class participants showcased their skills at a recent graduation ceremony by independently preparing an amazing three-course meal. The banquet featured an appetizer of beef empanadas and salad, a main course of ziti with garlic bread, followed by a delicious strawberry shortcake and cookies. All this awesomeness didn’t happen overnight. Rensselaer County Day Community Opportunity Program (DCOP) has a new volunteer site, @starsandstripesstables in East Greenbush! Participants moved and stacked hay and helped clean out a stall. They also had the opportunity to groom the horses, learning how to clean their hooves. Everyone involved absolutely loved the experience. One of the participants said, “It was great and amazing! It was like a show I watch called Saddle Club. Everyone was so nice to us!” Thanks to everyone at Stars and Stripes Stables for welcoming our group with open arms (and hooves!) Needless to say, we look forward to returning soon!

It’s a much anticipated annual happening at Living Resources and everyone was excited. Staff and program participants traveled to Columbia-Green Community College from Warren County, Westchester County, and everywhere in between to attend the 2023 Day Services Awards Ceremony. On this day, participants of our Day Programs and Community Living Program were celebrated for the achievements they have made over the past year and staff were celebrated for their hard work and dedication to the individuals they work with. We are honored to present the 2023 Amanda Rivenburg Rising Star Phoenix Award recipient, Mac Weiss! Mac began his career at Living Resources in September 2020 as the Assistant Director of Fleet Management. He is responsible for over 200 agency vehicles, the majority of which are used within the Day Community Opportunity Program (DCOP). Mac works diligently with staff on vehicle safety and training, handling all vehicle incidents, and working with insurance companies. Fun food, giant games, and happy sounds abounded at our main office last week as our After School Program celebrated the end of the school year. Students from all the districts had so much fun with their group party, they wished that school would never end. Well, almost. Summer has a way of flying by with adventures of its own and before you know it, September will be here and the students will be returning to school.
