“There are shortcuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.” — Vicki Baum
Our Brain Injury Program participants took a shortcut to happiness recently by holding their Annual Winter Ball. The day began at our Main Office in Albany where staff and participants did party preparations including cooking the meal- chicken parmigiana, meatballs, and sausage in homemade tomato sauce. Their dessert featured a homemade and decorated cake, as well as special by-request creations called “Magic Cookie Bars.” While all this cooking and baking was taking place, another staff member went directly to the Schenectady VFW on Draper Ave to get the room set up and decorated.
At 5:00 pm, everyone arrived at the venue in their party clothes and let the night unfold. They enjoyed dancing to songs offered by a DJ, eating a fabulous meal, and celebrating with friends. The participants said they look forward to the night which allows them to get dressed up and gather in a community setting far away from their traditional program site. The party was open to family members which changed their typical group dynamic.
One participant had such a great time he suggested that they hold these events every season!
