A projector screen displays a presentation that says Welcome to Social Media Workshop Day 2

Recently, individuals took part in a social media safety workshop. In this two-day training, individuals were coached on ways to stay safe on the different social media platforms. Topics discussed included what types of things to post online (public vs. private), catfishing and scams, and more.

The two-day social media workshop is offered as an adjunct to our Healthy Relationships and Sexuality Group (next group starts August 20). The Healthy Relationships and Sexuality Group is a fact-based psychoeducational group teaching sexual health, consent, dating and breaking up, and more. The social media workshop is interactive, engaging participants with scenarios so they can apply the information they learn to realistic situations to practice the skills and knowledge.

Social media is integral in our world, and therefore this workshop is vital for the people we support. It has evolved with every iteration we have offered and tailored for each group who attends to fit their needs as a cohort. The workshop focuses on the joys of social media as we stay connected to important people in our life and expand our circle of support, as well as the important safety elements of being present online and navigating the nuances of social interaction and how to present ourselves.

Many people who engage in the workshop choose to participate again or follow up in individual counseling to apply the details they have learned in their own life, others participate in more workshops or groups we offer including our “Advanced Relationships Group” which covers dating, online dating, how to plan a date, what to post about yourself on different apps, how to navigate the nuances of dating and intimate relationships, and more.

Trainings on these topics are also offered with specific skills for staff and agency personnel, as well as workshops for families. Living Resources’ Behavioral Health Services Department is always open to providing resources and opportunities for people to expand their knowledge in this area.
