Summer is in full swing, and individuals in our Rockland County Day Community Opportunities Program (DCOP) recently wrapped up an unforgettable week packed with rich history, exciting outdoor adventures, and great companionship!
The week kicked off on Tuesday with an inspiring trip through American military history. Individuals in the program traveled to the West Point Museum and the Stony Point Battlefield Museum, taking in an incredible collection of historical artifacts and exhibits.
Throughout the tour, the group expanded their knowledge of the United States Military Academy and the rich heritage of the U.S. Army. A clear crowd favorite was getting up close to the massive armored tanks dating back to World War I! The historic outing wrapped up with a fun stop at the gift shop, where individuals picked out special souvenirs to commemorate their day of exploration.
As the temperatures rose later in the week, the group headed to Rockland Lake State Pool for the ultimate summer cool-down. Everyone stayed active enjoying the sprawling pool area, zooming down the waterslides, testing out the diving boards, and splashing around the sprinkler zones.
The highlight of the afternoon was an energetic waterslide racing competition! The friendly race got an official stamp of approval when one of the pool lifeguards stepped in to act as the official judge, cheering on the racers as they splashed across the finish line.
This week of learning and splash-filled adventure brought plenty of smiles and built even stronger friendships across our group. Stay tuned for more adventures from DCOP!
