What Does Being a Board Member Entail?

Living Resources Foundation is dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals with disabilities or other life-challenging conditions to live with dignity, independence, and happiness.

Each individual board member is expected to:

  • Know the organization’s mission, board policies, programs, and needs
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and the individuals it supports
  • Review and have a basic understanding of the organization’s financial statements
  • Attend a minimum of four in-person yearly meetings
  • Participate fully in one or more committees. Committee meetings are held virtually.

What qualities make someone successful as a board member for this organization?

What are the specific expectations for board members in terms of time commitment and fundraising?

Board meetings are held at a minimum of four meetings a year, with the possibility of special meetings called as needed. Board Meetings are held in person at the offices of Living Resources. Board Members are expected to sit on at least one committee. Committee meetings are held quarterly. We approximate the commitment to be 6 hours. Additionally, Board Members are encouraged to attend fundraising events when possible and donate to our Annual Appeal in an amount that is meaningful to them.

What skills or qualities are most needed in the board right now?

We are currently seeking individuals with experience in the following industries/sectors:

  • Event Planning / Fundraising
  • Public Relations
  • Legal
  • Emerging Technology / Enabling Technologies / AI

How would you describe the organization’s culture?

Living Resources believes in a culture of inclusivity for our staff members and the individuals we support. We actively foster a culture where diversity is embraced ensuring that everyone feels valued and respected for their unique perspectives and backgrounds.

How often does the board revisit and update the organization’s strategic plan?

The Board recently completed a three-year strategic plan 2022-2024 and we are actively engaged in the creation of another three-year plan.
