We’re in the final stretch of advocacy season, and our Living Resources Day Community Opportunities Program (DCOP) participants came out in full-force at the Legislative Office Building in the New York State Capitol. Self-advocacy is an important component here at Living Resources, and we never miss an opportunity to have the voices of the individuals we support heard.
In the spirit of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, we handed out cards asking legislators to be our “lucky charm” in the fight for a 7.8% Medicaid rate increase in the Executive Budget. Along with the cards, a sweet treat was delivered as a thank you to all legislators who support individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. It was both a fun and informative day for everyone! DCOP participants enjoyed handing out the cards and sweet treats, while sharing with legislators and staffers their favorite parts of the Day Community Opportunities Program and why we need this vital funding. Legislators and staff enjoyed the treat break and hearing about the program.
While we have made strides in our fight, there is still more work to be done. Visit https://www.livingresources.org/advocacy/ for more information on how you can get involved and make your voice heard!
