They say when one door closes, another opens—and for our College Experience Program, that statement couldn’t ring truer! Last year, when the College of Saint Rose announced its closure, our hearts sank. Since 2005, it had been the nurturing home of our program, and we couldn’t imagine continuing without such a supportive partner.
But little did we know, an even brighter chapter was about to unfold. Our program found a warm and enthusiastic new home at Russell Sage College, and the transition has been nothing short of incredible! Together with our students, we’re thriving like never before—and we couldn’t be happier.
This first semester at Russell Sage College was a whirlwind of growth, learning, and joy. Starting college is always an adventure, with students stepping into unfamiliar territory. But our College Experience Program students embraced the challenge, diving into classes, making friends, and building memories that will last a lifetime.
We recently spoke with Jordana, Alex, Isaac, Shane, and Ian who are just finishing their first semester to see how they are doing. One of the standout highlights? Cooking class! Students raved about the skills they gained in the kitchen, learning to whip up a variety of delicious dishes. They were so inspired that many tried their recipes at home, impressing friends and family with their newfound culinary talents. Who knew learning could taste so good?
Another favorite was the Careers Class, where students explored their passions and dreamed big about the future. Isaac, a freshman with his sights set on becoming a meteorologist, discovered even more inspiration for his goal. Jordana, another bright star in the program, honed her focus on pursuing a career in childcare, determined to make a difference for elementary-aged kids.
But beyond classes and career aspirations, it’s the friendships that truly define this first semester. From bonding with roommates to finding kindred spirits among peers, students have formed connections that feel more like family. Many shared that they’ve met their best friends here, and those relationships have been the cornerstone of their success and happiness. Click the video below to hear directly from our students.
As the semester comes to a close, there’s a palpable excitement for what’s to come. The first chapter of our journey with Russell Sage College has been nothing short of remarkable, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for our students and the College Experience Program.
