On Friday, September 20, the Colonie Golf and Country Club was buzzing with excitement for Living Resources’ 15th Annual Golf Tournament. The sun was shining, the temperature was just right, and the atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and support.
The day kicked off with registration and a hearty breakfast. We heard from Noriene Durkin, who shared her heartfelt journey with the College Experience Program, highlighting how it has shaped her family’s life. Noriene’s daughter, Emily, a proud graduate of the program, and her son, Christopher, who is currently enrolled, both have developmental disabilities. Noriene spoke about their unique needs and how the program tailors support to help each student thrive. It was inspiring to hear how the program has empowered her children, giving them skills for greater independence and positively impacting the whole family.
Emily also took the stage, sharing her own success story after completing the program. Now with Living Resources for over nine years, she works in the Afterschool program, helping other individuals with developmental disabilities pursue their goals. Emily truly embodies what it means to be a Direct Support Professional.
After breakfast, golfers hopped into their carts, which were stocked with fun goodies in mini golf bag coolers to keep their energy up. For lunch, our awesome sponsor, Burger21, served up mouthwatering burgers and fries that hit the spot.
Throughout the day, participants enjoyed raffles and skill contests, with plenty of folks walking away with prizes. The putting contest was a tough one, but Diane Jorgensen shone in the longest drive and closest to the pin challenges. When the dust settled on the 18th hole, NFP took home first place, with Enterprise coming in a close second.
As the day wrapped up, we couldn’t help but feel grateful to everyone who joined us—attendees, sponsors, and volunteers. Your support makes a real difference in our mission to help individuals with disabilities live lives filled with dignity, independence, and joy. Thank you for being part of this amazing day!
