Employment Services
provided by Living Resources Corporation

Situational Assessment:

An opportunity for an individual to try out different types of work and/or assess recovery at work that they have done before.  These assessments are done at a business site with a job coach.

Work Try-Outs:

Work try-outs are usually four weeks and offer a potential employee and employer a change to get to know each other before a commitment for a job is made by either party.

The employer agrees to put the individual on their payroll for the time period and pays the typical wage.  The individual has a change to do the job on a daily basis.  A job coach is available, as needed.  At the end of the try-out, individual and coach evaluate the success of the try-out.

Job Development:

Preliminary to placing an individual, the job coach will survey various employment resources to locate options for a good job match between potential employee and employer.

Travel Training:

Teaching an employee skills needed to get back and forth to work, i.e.:  identifying a safe route to walk, learning street signs, using public transportation.

Intensive Training:

Some individuals may need support and supervision beyond what is usual in order to learn a new job.  A job coach is available until, by consensus between employer, employee and coach, it is agreed that the employee is performing independently.

On-going Support:

A job coach can be available for continuing visits with the employee and employer to facilitate communication, work on social skills, provide additional training if a job description changes or work on other needs, should they arise.  This can also be referred to as "follow-along services."

"We could not ask for better support or cooperation from your staff."

"(My employee) needed improvement of certain aspects of
her job.  The job coach interviewed and researched to zero-in
on the problems.  He worked steadily with her and there was
a vast improvement in her job performance.  She seems
ready to make the move to a higher skilled position."
Bob Marlow, Eddy Cohoes Rehabilitation Center

Advocacy:

This type of support can take many forms, i.e.:  clarifying a job description or defining conditions for a pay raise, facilitating communication between an individual or family and an employer.

"The job coach has been a very important link so that
he is able to maintain his job.  She helps him to
understand and recognize whatever problems he may
encounter and advises him accordingly."

Community-Based Vocational Experience:

Working with special education students before they graduate to assess skill levels, possible areas of interest and expand their knowledge of the world of work.

Developmental Disability:

A lifelong disability affecting normal growth and development that one is born with or that occurs before the age of 22.

Brain Injury:

Trauma to the brain whether through accident, illness, or a birth.  Effects of the injury may be physical, cognitive, executive or psychosocial.

Incentives for Hiring:

These programs include wage reimbursement (NYS:  Four Week Work Try-Outs) and credits on income tax (Federal:  Welfare to Work Tax Credit, Disabled Access Tax Credit, Architectural and Transportation Barrier Removal Deduction; NYS:  Workers with Disabilities Employment Tax Credit, Economic Development Zone Wage Tax Credit, Zone Equivalent Area Wage Tax Credit.
