Employment Support

Living Resources Employment Program, one of the first supported employment programs in the Capital District, has been providing employment services for individuals with disabilities since 1985 and transition services since 1997.

We currently serve approximately one hundred individuals in Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, and Saratoga Counties. Employment Program staff help individuals:

  • explore what kinds of jobs they might like to do
  • find a job that matches their interests and abilities
  • learn the various job tasks
  • maintain employment

Our goal is to make a good job match. i.e., to find a job that matches the individual's interests and abilities and provides an employer with a capable individual who is interested in that particular job. Once a job is secured, we provide on going support both to the individual and the employer with the goal of making each placement successful.

I feel every business has a position and could benefit from the individuals Living Resources has to offer. -Paul Hicks, Quality Foreign Car Care

Transition Services

Our goal is to prepare students for graduation to the adult world of work.

We provide Level I, II and III vocational assessments, which include:

(I) working with students, parents, and teachers in the classroom and the community to survey interests and needs;

(II)administering standardized testing as a means of evaluation of skills, aptitudes, and interests; and;

(III)providing exposure to community jobs, assisting with development of vocational skills, and facilitating integration and appropriate interaction with non-disabled individuals at work sites. Tasks are identified that suit the student's skill level, and direct coaching can be provided. Training and consultation services are also available.

This collaboration aims to develop recommendations for the student's education while in school and their transition into adult life. Opportunities like this also allow each student to grow in confidence and self-esteem, expanding his or her view of the world.
