Proper Use of Sign Language Interpreters
- A brief conference with the interpreter and Deaf individual(s) prior to the start of the assignment regarding seating and lighting is beneficial.
- Speak directly to the Deaf person(s) at a natural pace.
- Please note that a momentary delay will occur as the interpreter works from spoken English to American Sign Language and vice-versa.
- Contingent on the nature of the assignment, the interpreter may require a break or a team interpreter.
