Welcome to our world. Living Resources is honored and proud to tell you the stories
of over 1,000 people with disabilities who have had their eyes opened to their own personal
growth potential. Our mission at Living Resources is to provide growth opportunities
in a safe and secure environment. We are proud to serve as the agency that helps
individuals meet and exceed their personal goals. |
| Growth and happiness are unique for
each person. At Living Resources, our more than 650 staff assist and support people who are
disabled due to birth trauma, accident or illness. More important, our staff sees
their strength, capability and potential. |
| Over
10 years ago, Adam moved from a group home to his own apartment, a full time job
and a leadership position with the Statewide Self-Advocacy Association. |
| Jenny moved from a state institution to her own apartment, a job and love of animals,
especially her two cats. |
| Rich moved from home when his parents died to a small residence and a budding career as
an oil painter. Recently, his works were featured in a commercial art show. |
| There are over
1,000 stories. Everyone makes us proud to work at Living Resources.
Our services are individualized in that we do this in a variety of settings from
60+ residential housing arrangements, day opportunities, arts, community volunteering
through Living Resources' Rotaract Club, supported employment, after school programs,
counseling services, services to persons who are deaf and hard of hearing, in home support
to families, and services to persons with Traumatic Brain Injury. In addition, we
have a new home health agency specializing in serving people with
disabilities. |
| As
CEO, I have had a long and personal relationship with Living
Resources. As a social worker with interest in community organizations, I was one of
the founding members. In 1973, the agency was an outgrowth of faculty, student,
community leaders and parents of persons with disabilities. Many of us met and
planned Living Resources while attending the University at Albany, School of Social
Welfare. |
| I have served as executive director from 1981 to present. The agency has grown
from $1M to over $25M in revenues, 60 staff to more than 650 staff, and from serving 40 people in housing
to over 1,000 people in a wide range of services. All of which are geared to our
mission of providing growth opportunities in a safe and secure environment. |
| In 1999, Living Resources, Catholic Charities Developmental Disabilities, and Wildwood
Program formed the Network of Choice and Opportunities, Unlimited Possibilities for People
with Disabilities to pool knowledge and know how. This is part of our agency
commitment to always improve and insure that family and persons with developmental
disabilities always have the widest choices of services. |
| Living Resources has a great program, wonderful people and a well represented dedicated
community board of directors. You can keep up with us through agency updates
and our newsletter. |
| Thank you for visiting our world and we hope you will want to find out more about
programs, products for sale (made by persons with disabilities), employment opportunities,
special events, or how you can contribute to our services (volunteer hours,
goods and services or financially.) |
| Thank you. |
